AN INITIATIVE OF THE HUNGARIAN ECONOMIC GATEWAY

’56 Bridge

Hungarian heritage. International connections.

Those who left Hungary in 1956 carried the spirit of freedom into the world; today, this legacy can form a bridge between Hungarian businesses, researchers and young people and their international partners.

Our mission

The Hungarian Economic Gateway honours the legacy of the Hungarian diaspora of 1956. ’56 Bridge aims to help the knowledge, experience and networks of those who emigrated and the generations that followed find new paths to Hungary through cooperation.

What began as a loss in 1956 can become a shared asset today: professional connections, knowledge-sharing and international opportunities.

Background

Over seven decades, the Hungarian diaspora of 1956 has built new homes, communities and professional connections in many countries. This legacy is now carried forward by the second and third generations, from North America to Australia. ’56 Bridge seeks to connect with these communities and professionals.

Three guiding principles

01

Freedom and responsibility

Those who left Hungary in 1956 built new lives, while many maintained their ties to Hungary. Freedom meant both opportunity and responsibility. The initiative carries this outlook forward through professional cooperation today.

02

Self-organisation and cooperation

Self-organisation played a defining role in the communities of the revolution and the diaspora. ’56 Bridge aims to connect people who can achieve more together by sharing their knowledge and connections.

03

Building bridges towards the future

The legacy of 1956 is a shared starting point, not a political dividing line. With respect for the past, the initiative seeks to foster cooperation today and opportunities for the future.

What connections do we aim to create?

Hungarian businesses and international partners

Professional introductions, exchange of business experience and preparation for potential cooperation.

Researchers and knowledge centres
